WHY FORGED ?
HE TRUTH ABOUT FORGED VS CAST VS FLOW-FORMED WHEELS
When you buy Cutthroat Forged, you’re buying more than a wheel —
you’re buying a different level of engineering, strength, and craftsmanship.
This page explains why forged wheels are superior in every category
and why serious builds choose forged over everything else.
WHAT MAKES A WHEEL “FORGED”?
Forged wheels start as a solid block of 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, then are pressed under extreme pressure to increase strength, density, and structural integrity.
Then they’re CNC machined into the final design.
This process creates:
-
A tighter grain structure
-
Stronger material
-
Higher load capability
-
Better resistance to cracking
-
Cleaner, sharper machining
-
Significantly lighter weight
Forged wheels aren’t made — they’re engineered.
FORGED VS CAST WHEELS
CAST WHEELS
-
Poured molten aluminum into a mold
-
Weak grain structure
-
Can crack easily
-
Heavy
-
Cheap to produce
-
Limited design detail
-
Not ideal for lifted or heavy trucks
-
Not recommended for high-stress or high-power vehicles
Cast wheels are mass-produced.
Forged wheels are crafted.
FORGED VS FLOW-FORMED WHEELS
Flow-formed wheels are just cast wheels with a spun barrel.
They are NOT forged, and they will never match the strength or machining detail of a true forged wheel.
FLOW-FORMED WHEELS
-
Cast center — still weak
-
Spun barrel — slightly stronger
-
Limited design capability
-
Not suitable for deep, aggressive cuts
-
Not ideal for show builds
-
Not a premium option
Flow-formed is the middle ground — not the real deal.
WHY CUTTHROAT USES 6061-T6 FORGING
We use true forged 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum because:
-
It’s the strongest wheel-grade aluminum available
-
It machines beautifully and allows deep, aggressive cuts
-
It resists cracks and fractures
-
It handles heavy trucks, diesels, lifted builds, and big tires
-
It’s lighter, stronger, and more precise than cast or flow-formed
This is the same alloy used in:
-
Aerospace components
-
High-performance motorsports
-
Military-grade machining
-
Structural engineering
Nothing else compares.
BENEFITS OF FORGED WHEELS
1. Strength
Forged wheels handle massive load ratings and abuse that cast wheels can’t survive.
2. Precision Machining
Sharp details, deep cuts, and designs that aren’t possible with cast molds.
3. Weight Reduction
Less rotational mass = better acceleration, better braking, better ride quality.
4. Customization
Offsets, bolt patterns, widths, finishes — forged is the only format that can be custom-tailored.
5. Durability
Forged wheels don’t shatter like cast.
They bend before they break — a massive safety advantage.
6. Value & Reputation
Forged wheels hold value, look better longer, and represent a higher tier of quality.
WHY CUTTHROAT FORGED IS DIFFERENT
WE MACHINE FATIGUE OUT OF METAL.
Our wheels are built for lifted trucks, diesels, baggers, and heavy-use applications that demand more than cast or flow-formed can offer.
UNLIMITED MANUFACTURING CAPABILITY
Truck wheels
Super Singles
Dually
SxS / UTV
Motorcycle wheels
Steering wheels
One-off customs
Matching rotors
If it can be cut, we can make it.
DESIGNS OTHER COMPANIES WON’T TOUCH
Deep cuts.
Complex spokes.
High machining time.
Aggressive profiles.
Most companies avoid designs that take too long or cost too much to machine.
We build those.
WHO FORGED WHEELS ARE FOR
